Our Self-catering Holiday cottages are situated in a rural area surrounded by wildlife such as red squirrels, deer, buzzards, herons etc. and very little traffic makes this a real nature lovers retreat. The River Cairn runs nearby , (with waterfalls<1) and is a tributary of the river Nith, one of the finest salmon rivers in the country, within 3 miles.

At the end of the private drive you can join the cycle by-way which loops around Glenkiln or round to Dumfries and other areas. We are centrally located for all the 7 Stanes off road cycling forests. I have cycled much of the area myself, and it is simply stunning, with very little traffic, and routes, on and off road for every ability. Obviously if you bring your bikes we have secure storage and rack facilities for your baby!
Dumfries and Galloway is steeped in Scottish History with fabulous castles such as Caerlaverock Castle - Britain's only triangular castle and Drumlanrig Castle - home to the Duke of Buccleuch and a renowned art collection. Nearby at New Abbey is the beautiful “Sweetheart Abbey”.
There is also an aircraft museum and attractions such as Camera Obscura.
Scotland’s national Bard - Robert Burns spent much of his adult life in and around Dumfries. Visit the many attractions which celebrate their connection with him around the area.


In Dumfries you will find all the usual amenities of a large town including: - ice rink, swimming pool (New for 2008 “DG1” leisure complex with waves and slides), adventure parks, cinema, leisure centres, supermarkets and a vast array of restaurants, pubs and takeaways. Not forgetting of course we are only 20 minutes from the market town of Castle Douglas and its many speciality shops.

Just thirty minutes in the car gets you to the beautiful Scottish coastline , with beaches like Sandyhills , coastal villages such as Kippford (yachting Haven), Rockcliffe , cliff top walks (which we do regularly and can advise), and a myriad of local scenic lochs
